"I went to Emma for both pre and post natal massages religiously. Regardless of pregnancy I've always liked deep tissue massages to really get into my knots. During my third trimester I went to Emma twice a month which I always looked forward to and saw as my reward and relief from carrying another LIFE and those extra pounds everyday. My swollen feet and hands felt SO GOOD because Emma would really squeeze and kneed and push that extra fluid out of them. She would pick up on whether I'd been going to the gym the last couple weeks based on how my back muscles felt and compliment me for strengthening them. Every time I would come out feeling lighter and brighter physically and mentally. I also scheduled a post-partum massage two month after BB. It was again a reward for myself for making it 2 mo and doing a good job. Even though it was hard to take time for myself, I'm so glad I did. By then I was healed but also starting to get the aches/stiffness (different from pre-) for healing in bed and carrying for BB. She knew exactly what areas I needed. Her expertise on being dedicated to pre- and post-natal massage is apparent. She says "post-natal" is forever ;) and that I've earned it, so I plan to keep booking her as my reward to myself!" ~ Rose C ~ Seattle Pregnancy Massage Client
Seattle Pregnancy Massage offers several options for relaxation and restoration in the postpartum period.
Full-Body Postpartum Massages
Massage in the postpartum period has benefits that not only help you recover from the birth but also extend well into your next pregnancy and birth experience.
Structural changes in the body during pregnancy put stress on the weight bearing joints of the hips, pelvis and lower back. The labor and birth experience often causes lingering soreness in legs, back and shoulders and caring for a newborn puts strain on the back, neck and wrists.
Benefits of postpartum massage can include:
* Reduction in muscle tension and soreness
* Reduction in postpartum swelling of feet and legs
* Increased digestive function
* Better sleep
* Increased feeling of well being
Breast Massage for Lactation
Your breasts are amazing organs that make milk for your baby. They're full of not only milk making mammary glands, but also lymph fluid and fascia which all needs to be kept flowing and moving well in order for the milk ducts to do their job efficiently.
They're also an integral part of the front of your body, connecting your neck and shoulders with your abdomen which means that breast massage often has an effect on the way these structures feel too.
Breast massage can be especially beneficial for people experiencing low milk supply, engorgement, plugged ducts or mastitis.*
A breast and chest massage session incorporates traditional Swedish massage techniques with gentle myofascial and lymphatic drainage techniques. It also includes 15 minutes of breast massage education so that you can learn ways to continue the massage yourself at home each day.
*Breast massage techniques used follow the latest 2023 protocols for mastitis and plugged ducts
